The Met Wins Again At MWV Business Expo 2010

We are thrilled to announce that The Met won two awards for our booth at this year’s Mt Washington Valley Chamber of Commerce Business Expo.  Following 2009’s win of the People’s Choice Award, this year we picked up Best Use of Theme as well our second People’s Choice Award.  Christian Ganem, our assistant manager and soon to be coffee roasting manager,  took the lead on this year’s project as he incorporated our new coffee roasting business into the expo’s theme “Keep The Economic Engine Moving.”  We were joined this year by Dianne Mello, our manager, and Jake Luikens who will be stepping into Dianne’s shoes in a few weeks as she moves on to pursue her goals in commerical art and art education.  Check out the pic’s of our rockin’ booth, complete with coffee roaster, spinning globe, and pour over coffee brewing display.  We featured our own roasted Ethiopian Yirgacheffe which was a crowd pleaser.  Kudos go out to our friend Mike Kline for his fabulous and engaging Keynote speech. Check him out at Klineseminars.com.  Look for The Met Coffee Roasters to be in full swing this summer with our fresh roasted coffee available online at metcoffeehouse.com and of course when you Meet Us at The Met!

Meet Your Mother at The Met - Mother’s Day Special

Happy Mothers Day

Happy Mothers Day

Mother’s Day is fast approaching, and we at The Met want to help you make your mom feel special.  It’s easy.  Bring your mother to The Met on Sunday May 9th, mention that you read about our special on our blog or on our Facebook Page, and mom gets any drink she wants for free.  Remember, the only rule is that you need to mention you read about the special on our blog or facebook page.  Dads, be patient.  Your turn is coming right around the corner.

In Coffee News,  rumors circulating that The Met is going into the coffee roasting business are all true!  In the very near future, we will be sourcing and roasting our own coffee.  We are teaming up with a supplier of green beans (that’s the color of the bean before you roast it), that specializes in forming direct relationships with coffee farmers around the world. This gives them access to some amazing coffee (which we get to roast) and allows them to help coffee farmers learn more about helping themselves through implementing quality control strategies, sustainability practices, and ultimately receiving a higher price for the high quality coffee they grow and process.  It’s all very exciting stuff around here.  We will be offering public “cuppings” for those interested in learning more about the fascinating world of specialty coffee.  We will also use these cuppings as an opportunity to learn from you what you would like to see in terms of the coffee we offer.  Sign up for our newsletter - this will ensure you are kept you in the coffee roasting loop.  We’ll soon be offering our fresh as you can get coffee for sale through our online store and, of course, at The Met.  Stay tuned.

In Business News, if you are in the area on May 24th, visit our booth at the Business to Business Expo being held at The Mt Washington Hotel from 9:00am to 4:00pm.  Admission is free.  This year’s theme is “Keeping the Economic Engine Moving.”  We’re doing our part by spreading the word about our expansion into the world of coffee roasting, and we’ll be demonstrating a great brewing method you can use at home to get the smoothest cup of coffee you have ever tasted.  Our little home coffee roaster will be on hand and chugging away, so you can see first hand  the art and science of coffee roasting in action. ….Don’t tell anyone, but we are going to try to sneak in the Purple Couch :>)

In “Met Baristas Rule” News: We receive many comments about our fantastic Met Baristas. Why not let them know? Send them a line through the comments section of our website. We’ll post your comments around The Met and have a drawing and send three winners a great thank you prize for participating.

When you’re out there in the hustle and bustle of the holidays and feel your stress level rising at times, take a deep breath and send a thought or prayer out to our service men and women. If you can, don’t miss an opportunity to thank them for their service in person. It’s not political. It’s the right thing to do. Besides, it will help put things in perspective.

Wishing you all happiness, peace, and good neighborliness this holiday season. And thank you for supporting The Met Coffee House!

The Met Wins Big at Business to Business Expo 2009

The great work of The Met management team has paid off once again as The Met brought home two awards from the 11th Annual Business to Business Expo recently held at The Mt Washington Hotel in Bretton Woods.

Dianne Mello

Dianne Mello, our stellar manager, won the Fledgling Young Employee of The Year award sponsored by The Mt Washington Valley Young Professionals. Congratulations Dianne!! No one deserved it more.  Click here to read her nomination letter.

Christian Ganem and Brandy Hewitt teamed with Dianne to win The Exhibitor Award for Best Use of Theme.  This year’s theme was “People, Planet, Profits.”  As you can tell from the picture, the booth they created looked fabulous. Central to The Met’s mission is to enhance the quality of life for its employees, its local community, and the world.  Our booth this year highlighted The Met’s efforts to further reduce its environmental impact by acting in ways that promote environmental sustainability. We proudly use environmentally friendly cleaning products, compact fluorescent light bulbs, and coffee cup sleeves, carriers, and napkins made from recycled materials. This year we have replaced our petroleum based plastic cups with corn-based plastic cups.

These corn-based cups are 100% compostable and will literally dissolve under hot water!  The Met serves all of its in-house coffee drinks in our lead-free ceramic Mara Mugs vs paper cups, producing less waste. And, we offer for sale our signature Met Mugs that are not only reusable but also get you a free drink and $1.00 coffee refills forever.  Many of our coffees, including our custom espresso blend, are organic and fairly traded.  Our decaf is produced via The Swiss Water method that alleviates introducing toxic chemicals into the environment.  We love to talk about this aspect of our business so drop us a comment and let’s get the conversation going.
